On Jan 2, I was able to do the entire hike with Hillsound spikes. It had been so warm I did not trust walking on the pond to cut off a bit of mileage. These conditions are short lived, as it snowed 3-4 inches at lower elevations a few days following this hike.
For the walk into Daicey, I started up the Foss and Knowlton Trail with a pulk for about 1/4 of a mile but turned around due to blowdowns. The Tote Road was nearly bare on the way in, but much better on the hike out.
There will be lots of work for the trail maintenance crews in the park. On just a 1.5 mile stretch of the AT here were three trail blocking blowdowns to the "Niagara Falls" from Daicey. |
