Conditions are currently perfect for winter hiking on Bald Mountain in Oquossuc! The trails are well packed, so only spikes are needed. Even though snow flurries and clouds limited the views at the summit, the snow covered trees made for beautiful scenery throughout the entire hike. Although I've hiked the mountain many times, this is the first time where I didn't see anyone else for the entire hike. I started at the Route 4 Trailhead, as the Bald Mountain Road Trailhead isn't plowed, and I prefer the hike from Route 4 anyhow. I descended via the snowmobile trail, which I hadn't done before, and saw some remains of the former Bald Mountain Ski Area. |
