Comments: Avery & Bigelow

Trails had a variety of conditions. From the parking area to about 1 mile up Fire Warden all well packed and in great shape. As the elevation increased the trail was being filled in with windblown. About one mile from the col the trail had about 8" of powdery dry snow. The AT between peaks was completely filled in with 12" of powder. The final steep ascent before Bigelow had 12"-24" of powder and was a chore to get up because of sliding back - the snow would not compact under my snow shoes. Coming down around noon the temp increased and the lower elevations were spring like conditions. Wet and sticky. Bare booted from parking area to about 1/2 mile up the Fire Warden and then snowshoes for the rest of the day. I was the only hiker out there today.
