Trails: Albany Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, May 12, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We were the only car at the trailhead next to Crocker Pond Campground. The dirt roads in the area are open and in good condition.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few one- or two-step crossings. The muddy areas were significantly more difficult to get through.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blowdowns and lots of debris on the trail. Lots of sections that were very wet and muddy. Some of them have stepping-stones to get through, while others don't. There's a sign at the trailhead but no sign at Round Pond to mark the end of the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Shouldn't have any issues.
Bugs
Bugs: Yes - plenty. Not surprising considering all the standing water nearby.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Did this hike just after finishing the traverse of Albany Mountain Trail. To be honest, this trail isn't exactly a favorite of mine. It looks flat on a map, but there are several ups and downs. Significant sections were very wet and muddy, and getting around them was not easy. Worst of all, the trail weaves in, around, and through these big, ugly slash piles from recent logging. They're really such a massive scar on the landscape. And Round Pond is a fine pond, but it's not particularly beautiful, and it doesn't feel secluded thanks to the large slash pile nearby.

Perhaps thanks to the above, this was a quick hike, taking between 45 and 50 minutes round-trip. This trail will definitely be a one and done.
