Date of Hike: Friday, May 19, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The trail is a little more than 5mi from Rt 15 along dirt roads. The road should be passable by any car with care. There were some blowdowns that have been trimmed so you can pass by. I think there was some washout along the sides of the road as well but you could easily go around. Mid-sized lot. I was the only car there at shortly before 3pm and at 6:45pm.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Eagle Mountain Trail is pretty well blazed in blue and although not terribly well travelled, not difficult to follow. Could be trimmed back a bit in some areas, a namely in the minor cols between knobs where there’s lots of (hobble)brush. There are also a number of blowdowns, many of which were rather difficult to get around so this trail could use some work. I believe all of the significant ones were before reaching Raven Ledge. There’s an information sign with faded writing at the jct of the old trail and this trail at Eagle Rock but no formal trail sign that I recall. Jct with spur path to Raven Ledge is signed though.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be a good trail for dogs. Just be cautious on the ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: I don’t remember them being too bad but I think I used DEET at the car. If memory serves correctly, I also found a dog tick on me afterward.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: First hike on my way out to stay in Millinocket for the weekend. The trail is relatively new and not terribly well defined and a little overgrown but I found it quite pleasant. Lots of PUDS as the trail goes over and around many knobs but not too steep usually and not much elevation gain. The trailhead is nearly at 1800ft and its highest point is less than 2500ft. Some muddy parts and lots of blowdowns. The view from Raven Ledge is great and the Eagle Rock is spectacular. Just be cautious on both especially with animals or children! There’s lots of chain on Eagle Rock. I figured this was the chain/rope mentioned in the guidebook for the old trail but then I realized that the old trail reached the new trail not at the summit but just below tree line…perhaps this is for rock climbers? In any case, very cool spot. I throughly look forward to returning and hiking up the Old Eagle Rock Trail from the north. Gaia had me at 7mi, 1650ft of gain, 3hr 45min.
