Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I don’t think the trailhead was marked in any way. I just dropped a pin based on the guidebook’s directions and my gps managed to get me there. There’s a pull off with small parking area behind it with room for several cars. Just one other there at 6:15pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: While I still don’t think the trail is blazed, it does seem that it is perhaps better marked than it was at the time the guidebook was written. Signs indicate which way the climbing route vs hiking trail go at the (obvious) jcts described in the guidebook. Not much surveyors tape either but still easy to follow. Just a couple of trivial stepover blowdowns partway up.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Shouldn’t be too steep for most. Just watch them around the ledge.
Bugs
Bugs: I don’t recall any.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: 1st hike of the day on my drive out to Houlton. This hike, among some others in the Dowmeast tab, are good ones on the long drive up there as they aren’t crazy far out of the way from 95.

The trail was, as far as I recall, dry, which was a nice surprise and change of pace. Not hard to follow and while steep in its second half, wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be or scrambly… then again I think this is because the guidebook has the summit’s elevation a couple hundred feet higher than it actually is so has the gain much higher than it actually is. It did look like a path continued north along the ledges beyond where the official trail ends. The spur the guidebook mentions that’s needed for redlining is not signed but is obvious enough. A few different paths actually seemed to lead to this spot. Nice views from the summit where I only found two others. Gaia had me at 0.9mi, 25min, 300-350 gain.
