Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of any note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cadillac South Ridge and Canon Brook trails were blazed in blue. I do not recall the blazing of any of the others but presumably blue as well. I don’t recall the frequency of the blazing but the trails aren’t hard to follow. Above treeline, look for cairns in addition to the blaze. I don’t recall any blowdowns. Trail signs were intact and, generally speaking, the trails in ANP are very well taken care of.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Nothing too scrambly. Most dogs should be okay.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: 2nd hike of the day on our 1st full day staying in Ellsworth after hiking a loop over Champlain Mtn. We ascended Cadillac South Ridge Trail, taking a right on Eagle Crag Trail, then completing an OAB on the missing portion of Cadillac South Ridge (quicker/shorter than Eagle Crag) before continuing on to the summit. From the summit, we descended Cadillac South Ridge partway, then turned right and descended Canon Brook Trail to Bubble & Jordan Ponds Path, then turned left onto the Carriage Rd, then left again onto Hunters Brook Trail which we took out to Park Loop Rd which we followed for a few hundred feet before climbing up the embankment and turning left onto Rt 3 which we followed back to the car. Don’t miss the turn like us because you weren’t thinking you’d have to scramble up a bridge to access the other road…oops!

I’m wrtiting this trail report so late I don’t remember ground conditions terribly well but I believe they were pretty dry. Cadillacs South Ridge Trail was a joy and of course had many views and ledge in addition to mostly easy grades. Canon Brook Trail was steeper and rougher but all the other trails were also gentle. Gaia had us at 9mi, 1600ft of gain, almost 4.5hrs.
