Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at mile 4 on Barnjum Rd, near large boulder with blue paint declaring "4 miles." The parking area is on the apex of a right angle turn in the road to the right. Room for 2-3 vehicles. There's a double row of boulders that block the straight, northbound woods road that ascends to meet the AT just north of where the AT crosses Orbeton Stream. Easy to follow if you keep going north and up hill and arrival at the AT is well marked.

Comments
Comments: The story here is the condition of Barnjum Rd. I drove this road several times in 2017 to 2019 in a Toyota Corolla and, while slow-going, it was doable even in an economy car as far as 6-7 miles in. The road has deteriorated somewhat in the past several years and a truck is recommended. A group of us in a RAV4 drove in and scraped bottom several times. It took between 45 minutes and an hour to do the 4-mile trip each way.

Total R/T hiking was 10.8 miles using the woods road, AT and Mt Abraham trails. Elevation gain 2,600 ft +.
