Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, January 1, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Morton Cutoff, Lincoln Pond Road, and Little Kennebago Lake Road appeared to have been plowed at some point. All three were icy, but the chained logging truck traffic provided enough grip to get by with relative ease.

The logging road leading up to the east side of Kennebago Divide/Whitecap, on the other hand, hadn't seen much of any vehicular traffic. We made it to the traditional parking area, circa 2600 feet, with a 4WD truck. There was 6" of snow at that point, with ice mixed in. Attempting it with a car would be a foolhardy endeavor.

Comments
Comments: We barebooted this, however one more mild to moderate snowfall would change this to snowshoes required.

The logging road leading to near the top of Whitecap had been snowmobiled once, so it was fairly well packed for booting. In bushwhacking over to Kennebago Divide, we were generally following moose postholes and thus didn't need snowshoes there either.

About 6" of spring snow, sometimes with a breakable crust, in the lower elevations. A good foot of snow on the ridge.
