We skied to just below the junction with the Owl trail. Bare booted to Katahdin Stream Falls, but could have worn snowshoes as it was very unconsolidated across the stream. Bare booted up the Owl but switched to snowshoes due to soft snow before the small stream crossing. Trail was broken to the view point, then we broke trail 2-3ft deep to the open boulder/scree section. Switched to spikes to navigate ice and crusty snow up to the sub-peak. Turned around there as we didn't have time to break the final 500 ft of trail to the summit. |
