Stratton Pond Road is well plowed, but icy. There is a sign indicating it is closed for logging operations. We observed active logging operations and parked at the AT lot off 27. This added about 1.5-2 miles each way. |

Still chipping away at the winter 67 over 70 with Tom as he continues to learn Maine is a different beast. AT from 27 is chopped up with a good set of postholes. From that point trails are in decent shape. There are postholes on some of the inclines which actually help a bit for footing as long as you watch your step. Taylor wore Hillsounds door to door. Tom put on K10s at the Col and I put on my full crampons, but mostly because my other traction was rockspikes. Yesterday there was no reason to carry snowshoes unless you wanted the televators. The wind was howling down low, but we caught a nice lull up top, making for a more pleasant than expected trip above treeline. |
