Comments
Comments: Single day hike to bag Baxter & Hamlin. Precipitation rolled in sooner than expected so we tagged Baxter and headed down. I needed both peaks to complete my W67 and NE100 so I was bummed to not get Hamlin. Tote road was firm packed snow. Abol from campground to the slide was a mix of packed and loose snow. We used snowshoes to avoid post holing. At the slide switched to Hillsounds and wore them to Baxter but then switched to crampons for the descent. The slide was patches of ice and wet ice with some dry areas. The Table was solid ice and then hard packed snow ascending to Baxter. Descending the Abol slide was super slow for me.
