I had hiked Singepole a few years ago via the snowmobile trail route from the west, but today we gave the trail from Halls Pond a try. After parking near the boat launch, we started circling the pond counterclockwise. The trail along the water was very pleasant, and there were lots of views across the pond. The trail to the ledge viewpoint from the pond is short, but quite steep and rugged. I enjoyed how it wound its way up through the bands of ledges.
There were excellent views from the open viewpoint, and lots of ripe blueberries. I continued on past the viewpoint to the abandoned quarry, and the true summit of Singepole. The true summit has open ledges, but minimal views.
After descending back to the pond, we finished the loop around the pond back to the boat launch. Although steeper, I really enjoyed this way up Singepole and definitely prefer it over the snowmobile trail approach. |
