I parked on Main Street, and started following a woods road up the mountain which left from a gated log yard. After passing through the first section of recently logged area and reaching the base of the impressive cliffs, the woods road joined up with a yellow blazed trail entering from the left. I had no idea that there was a designated hiking trail up Berry Ledge, and I decided to follow the trail on the descent. For the rest of the climb, the yellow blazes followed my intended route up the woods road and an old ATV trail to the summit. There are great views west, south, and east from a few different viewpoints at the top of the ledge, one of which provides a unique perspective of downtown West Paris. On the descent, I followed the yellow blazed trail. It didn't seem very heavily used, but was well blazed and generally easy enough to follow. After leading me west for a bit, the trail popped out behind the elementary school. From there, I walked back east on Main Street to my car. I had no idea that the trail existed, but I can now add Berry Ledge to my list of great easier summits in the Oxford Hills! |
