 | Comments: |
We had pleasant temps and decent snow conditions. We brought crampons but didn't use them. We used micro spikes for the beginning, two of four switched to shoes fairly early, the other two switched at the shelter/outhouse. All 4 in snowshoes to the summit and back down to the shelter. The trail was fine and easy to follow until just after we went above treeline. Shortly after, the cairns were tough to discern and the trail through the subsequent spruce section was difficult to find. We did eventually discover it with a frozen spruce blowdown blocking the path and sawed through it to be able to pass. After that we were on and off the trail at times and the last quarter mile was more of a free for all. Followed our tracks back down. We saw no one else all day but it was a great day to grab Abraham in the winter with spring like temps. The ability to park most of the way up Rapid Stream Rd was a bonus; saved us about 5 miles. We had an all wheel drive vehicle. Just take it slow in the bumpy sections. |
