Someone turned around about a mile up the firewardens trail, I broke out past there to both summits. At about 3600 ft the blowdowns start, I was able to follow the direction of the trail to the AT juntion. Avery peak was pretty straightforward, not too many trees down. Bigelow peak was basically a bushwack, but I put in a pretty straight trail without too many issues. Stunning day on the summits. A little windy, but very manageable. If my tracks stay in, it is a decent path to follow.
I met one fellow on my way down who had gone up the AT from Stratton brook rd but ran into big downed trees and turned around. |
