Comments
Comments: Another Maine adventure for the Old Mountaineer's winter 67 over 70 years old. We (Taylor, Tommy R, Lizzie, Tommy V, myself) meandered a bit in the golf course but ended up where we needed to be at the 11th teebox, better to just follow the access road/cart path downhill. The path is plowed and was basically bare pavement, but you can snowshoe off to the side. Our bushwhack to Caribou Valley Road isn't perfect, we followed a mix of flagging tape and the prior snowshoe track, but it will get you there. The road/snowmobile trail was freshly groomed and nice easy walking, enjoyed that gift. We did pretty well staying on trail up to the junction of the Cirque Campsite. After that, we did the best we could, but it was a battle. Spruce traps, blowdowns, a maze of snow covered trees, white blazes nowhere to be found, except for the occasional one down at about shin level. Ran out of time for Redington, so can't provide any intel there. But since we went out and back there are 5 sets of snowshoes x2 that have been out there, set a track, and seemingly tried to find every possible spruce trap for you in advance. If you go, may the odds be ever in your favor...Maine hits different.
