Started out out messy but soft enough to be comfortable in snowshoes, the higher you get the more fun, deeper snow, on ledges it gets tricky to stay on trail even off by 6” and you’re postholing in snowshoes. Some heavy deep drifts up top and tricky to find the right route. Got to the first very large cairn which is not the top but feels like it, you can see it from there but in Maine you can’t get there from here although I tried. Only got 100-200 yards when I watched my smaller dog get stuck in a spruce trap and decided to call it. Really can’t tell if anyone’s been past the large cairn sure doesn’t feel like it. On the way back decided to try the woodsum spur, again no one has been there, this time made it a few hundred yards. Also couldn’t find the caves but all in all beautiful place to be. |
