Paid $25 each to hike up Saddleback Resort. The trail was in great shape, firm, and no blow downs, or snow covered overhanging trees. The goal was Saddleback and The Horn, however mother nature had other plans. Above treeline, the wind was howling so much that me and my "big boned" partner almost got blown off the mountain. I took one mitten off on Saddleback to send a Garmin waypoint and could barely hold on to my mitten. I had to use both hands to hold my hood and goggles on my head. We were walking at a 45 degree angle to keep from being blown over. Considering "The Horn" is over a mile and a half away and exposed, we turned around. It was so much less windy below treeline. |
