Comments
Comments: Today (3/14/15- Friday) was our 2nd attempt at North Brother this winter and this time we were successful. We got lucky with the weather and trail conditions. We started at 5:30am from Kidney Pond cabin and the trails were crusty (temps in low teens). Marston Trail was firm and crusty and much of the snow on the tree branches had melted. 2 of us wore microspikes and one wore snowshoes. Thanks to the group of 5 who summited N Brother on Monday and left us a trail to follow which saved us time & effort. There were over a dozen blowdowns we had to climb over and under during the ascent. The views from the summit were fantastic of Mt Katahdin, Doubletop, Coe. Temps rose as the day progressed and the earlier crunchy conditions were starting to soften. On Tote Rd, the snow consistency was that of mashed potatoes. We were glad to have started the hike early when the temps were low and kept the snow/ice in firm/crunchy condition. L
