Comments
Comments: Gridded out Old Speck on a beautiful Friday! Still full blown winter conditions out there. Not much pushing thru the puckerbrush at all, folks have been out with saws. Monorail is just starting to form here and there in the lower half, but everything is nice and firm. Did just fine with dull Hillsounds the whole hike, put them on about halfway up the switchbacks and wore them back to the final stream crossing at the bottom. Folks may want snowshoes as things soften up in the next couple weeks. Well over 5 feet of snow in places above 3000', especially on north facing slopes, which is the majority of this hike.

There is a dead moose in the stream about 150 yards below the uppermost stream crossing around 2400'. The carcass is likely to get washed lower as things start to break up. Dog owners might want to keep their charges leashed up at this point.
