Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Burnt Meadow Mountain, Stone Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Burnt Meadow Trail, Twin Brook Trail, Stone Mountain Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, May 25, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Dirt lot just off route 160 with some rocks jutting up. The lot was full when I arrived around noon. I parked to the side of the access. Exit on to route 160 can be tricky if traffic is travelling quickly.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Minor crossings on Twin Brook Trail were easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Only had to cut one small tree across the trail. No other obstacles. There is no trail sign on the summit of North Peak of Burnt Meadow Mountain. If you ascend via Burnt Meadow Mtn Trail, then the Twin Brook Trail continues in the open area bending slightly left. An old, abandoned trail bends to the right. There are lots of bright orange flagging that helps identifying the pathway to Stone Mountain.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The Twin Brook and Stone Mountain trails are fine for dogs. The Burnt Mountain Trail has a steep rocky section that may be challenging for some dogs. Met two poodles and another group with dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Had at least a half dozen ticks on my pants. I think I acquired these pests on the Stone Mountain summit area where the trail is crowded with low growth (blueberries). Some black flies. I did not use the head net.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: I was surprised that most of the pathway was dry considering all of the recent rains. The worst of the mud is down low on the Twin Brook Trail.
There are nice views from many of the ledges although the views toward the White Mountains are often restricted at best. I think the best views to the west are on ledges on the Twin Brook Trail below the Burnt Meadow summit.
On the Twin Brook Trail there are beautiful small cascades that are frequently unimpressive in the dry season. Also, a talus slope from the Burnt Meadow Ridge can be seen. The Twin Brook Trail skirts some logged areas.
Saw Wild Columbine, Lady's Slipper, Starflower, Blueberry, and Wood Anemone in bloom.
Lots of hikers out including a former co-worker.
