Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None that I recall. The outlet of the pond is a step over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail over Tumbledown main peak is unsigned or blazed but marked with cairns coming from West peak. There are bits of flagging and a sign heading up Little Jackson, but it felt very much like a herd path. The blue blazes and signs on the regular trail were helpful.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I don’t recall any hazards on these trails.
Bugs
Bugs: Yes, plenty especially in the parking lot.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: No

Comments
Comments: It was strange having this whole hike to myself, but I did start at 4:30 am. (The trailhead is very remote and I slept in my truck here.) It was an absolutely breathtaking morning hike with a fine sunrise. It took about 6 hours total, about 10.5 miles and 3,300 ft of gain. The pond was clean and I had a nice swim. I didn’t do much research on this hike besides look at photos, but could see from Gaia gps that the trail connecting the loop was not an official trail. It was quite hard to follow and I thought it might turn into a bushwhack but I managed to stay on it following the small cairns. The highest summit, Jackson also is the most wooded, has a helipad and building on it and was kind of pointless compared to the amazing views on all the other peaks. The parking lot for the Brook trailhead was full of cars and hikers heading up when I left around 10:30- I believe that is the more difficult trail too. I’ll want to come here again someday for sure.
