Trails: Uphill Access Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, January 2, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: you could park at Saddleback Ski Area if you're hiking Saddleback Ski Area uphill route or opting for the Saddleback Spur / Fly Rod Crosby Trail to the AT route ... the AT parking lot on route 4, 5.1 miles south on the AT from Saddleback summit, has not been plowed and it doesn't look safe to park on the side of the road on route 4 there, as it's on a blind corner

Comments
Comments: our Plan A was to hike Saddleback Mountain and Saddleback Horn via Saddleback Ski Area "uphill route" and the AT (7 miles round trip) ... we arrived by 8am when the ski area ticket office opens, to buy $25 uphill passes and sign their waiver, and were told that access to Saddleback summit above the highest ski lift was off limits for the day, as they were making snow in that area ... so we opted for Plan B and drove over to hike Mount Abraham ... posting this report for others to plan hiking Saddleback peaks (also posted an Abraham report on this site)

Saddleback & Horn should be accessible via their uphill route on days they aren't blowing snow on the upper uphill route ... call Saddleback Ski Area the day before and ask if their uphill route will be open before you head there ...

Saddleback ski area charges $25 for an uphill pass, route mostly follows Black Cat (subject to change, depending on conditions), and should be open for summit access, where you could opt to hike the AT over to Saddleback Horn ... there's a longer alternate route up Saddlebacks if you'd rather not pay $25 for a Saddleback Uphill Pass, by hiking Saddleback Spur Trail (1.8 miles) to Fly Rod Crosby Trail another 0.9 miles to the AT, then 2.0 miles up the AT to Saddleback summit (12 miles round trip if you add Saddleback Horn) ...
