Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Moxie Bald Mtn., Moxie Bald Mtn. North Peak, ME
Trails
Trails: AT, North Peak Trail, Summit Bypass Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 25, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: AT Road is now passable (AllTrails reported it was washed out two weeks ago), though it still requires driving through water that’s maybe 4-6” deep. We made it through in our Subaru Outback. The road itself is extremely rough in spots and I would not attempt it with less than 6” of clearance and AWD.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Everything is bone dry past the AT Rd. (where we started — see below). There is NO WATER on this section at the moment. Even the spring on the summit bypass has dried up. Spoke to some folks who started at Troutdale Road who said the crossing of Baker Stream (which is considered a ford that usually means wet feet) was a simple rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One fresh blowdown about a half mile in from AT Rd. that should probably be addressed. North Peak Trail has been recently reblazed and is very easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great trail for dogs, though the open slabs can get hot in the sun.
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly only a few flies on North Peak that only started buzzing after we’d sat there for awhile.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day for this one. North Peak is spectacular and we had it all to ourselves. Mostly through hikers today except for one day hiking group. We could see Katahdin and the Bigelows despite the haze.
