Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some rock hopping as I worked up the Gold Brook drainage. The brook was flowing, but very low and the rocks were dry for traveling on. It was a beautiful route as far as where I left it for 3 Slide but I did not find the branch heading up to that peak shown on the map, just hobblebush.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Flagging on the NW slope from the Tumbledown tower to the log landing. Not really what I'd call a path but it seemed to follow my bearing. It does follow some grassy skidder paths near the bottom.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A good route for dogs I'd think. I did encounter a mother and baby moose. Saw a couple coyotes and another moose too on the road. No traffic on the road during this hike.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad, a few deer flies on the road.

Comments
Comments: This was some of the best woods of my 4 day whack-fest in Maine. I went solo for this 5 mile whack, starting at 3:30 pm and only planning to get one peak. I made it two miles to the first peak (the most prominent summit of 3 slide) in one hour which I signed in and decided I had enough daylight to go for one more. I made a direct line for Tumbledown which I could just make out through the trees. It was quite far away but the woods were great and I was basically running through them. Near the summit there was a blowdown field and ripe raspberries to pick through, but not long to the tower which I climbed for 360 views. (It looks just like the Snow COP tower). I signed in the canister, then headed down in even better woods following my compass to the road shown on satellite images. It was an enjoyable but long jog out on the roads which also had good views along the way. The loop was about 9 miles and 2000' of gain, taking me 3:45, which was an incredibly fast pace compared to other hikes on this trip.
