	Trails:	Speckled Mountain trail, Bald Mountain Loop Trail

	Date of Hike:	Saturday, August 29, 2026

	Parking/Access Road Notes:	There were 2 cars in the lot when we arrived and about 9 there when we finished. With careful parking about 12 to 15 cars can fit in the lot. Coming from the Rumford side, there are a few bigger washouts on the road which require care.

	Surface Conditions:	Dry Trail

	Recommended Equipment:

	Water Crossing Notes:	All were dry so very easy to cross

	Trail Maintenance Notes:	There are a few step overs along the way and a few new to me blowdowns. The large one leading to Speckled Mountain has a well worn herd path around it now.

	Dog-Related Notes:	One happy pupper headed to the lake with her people. This route is good for dogs. Speckled Mountain has some steep scrambly/rooty sections that experienced trail dogs will have no issues with.

	Bugs:	They weren't an issue but I managed to inhale another one today. Only me.

	Lost and Found:	There is a broken canoe by the kiosk. It's quite a sight to see.


	Comments:	With the beautiful weather today, I didn't want to miss out on a hike but the week has been busy so staying closer to home was exactly what I needed. There was one couple ahead of us today and they cleared all the spider webs. Thank you! The trail was dry as were the rocks which made for quicker and safer hiking. We had both summits to ourselves and really enjoyed the views and the breeze. We stopped to look at all the mushrooms and take lots of pictures and had the loveliest morning. Huge shout out to the nice woman we met who was back on the trail for the first time since May due to a knee injury. Everyone we met today was so happy and friendly and we all were talking about what a great day it was. I could not have asked for a more wonderful day!
