Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels are high due to snow melt and recent rain. Both crossings of Nesowadnehunk Stream are very dificult. Use blue blazed Highwater Bypass trail instead. Crossing of Katahdin Stream and Abol Stream are on bridges. 
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On 5/11 and 5/12 a crew of 9 Maine A.T. Club volunteers worked on the 14.5 miles of the A.T. in Baxter State Park. We cleared blowdowns cleaned water bars and drainages and clipped brush and branches to have the A.T. in BSP ready for opening day of camping on May 15th. 
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No pets allowed in BSP. Even Percival Baxter did not brings his dogs into the park that he established.

Bugs: none due to cool temperature.

Comments: Appalachian Trail in Baxter State Park


It rained thursday evening on the ride to the park. Friday was cool with drizzle and some sprinkles. Saturday was a great day with sun and temps in the mid 50's. Got a lot of trail work done and had a great time with friends.
