Bushwacked up to the Howe Peaks Trail from Blueberry Knoll. Very steep in sections but offered some interesting views.
After climbing out of the North Basin cliffs and onto the plateau I saw a Pine Marten for the first time. He/she was very curious of my presence. It ran around and stood on its hind legs cocking its head sideways looking at me from different angles. It was the best part of my day.
After I connected with the Howe Peaks Trail I followed it down to the tree line and bushwacked to the ledges of Harvey Ridge overlooking the Northwest Basin. Retraced my steps and went over Katahdin and back to the parking lot. All the hiking trails I took were dry and in good shape. Bushwacks were thick. |
