Comments
Comments: Old Speck Trail hadn't been used since the small snowstorm last week. About 1-3" of new, however, in many places the snow drifted and filled in the footbed, resulting in 6" of trailbreaking. Up high, lots of drifts, 1-3' deep. Trail hard to follow in col above Eyebrow junction (go diagonally left), as well as the last .3 miles (due to lots of blowdowns). Snowshoes with good traction were perfect. If using snowshoes without great traction, crampons might be necessary for the steeps just prior to the ledge switch back (just before the trail junction near the summit). Trail is now well packed for snowshoeing, however there was some minor drifting occurring still.
