Comments
Comments: stellar day. Missed meeting up with friends at Lowes so headed to Appalaichia parking lot where Guy and Gary were just headed out..Also chatted with Craig and Garrett there. Joined forces with Guy and Gary and were delighted to find Valley Way broken out and fairly solid. Gary set a great pace to the campsite and beyond where trail bed became a bit unconsolidated. After a rest at the hut we headed for Adams first to try and beat the snow. Much frozen granular, some blue ice, some deep snow as we skirted up Gulfside and snowfields to Airline. Some bony steps but mostly good footing to Adams where we met up with Jeff, Karine and Emily with whom we spent the rest of the day. Went down Lowes towards Thunderstorm where there was much deep snow and smooth sailing. Cut the corner..some sketchy sidehills on frozen granular above Gulfside but snowshoes adequate for the task. A couple of hard pack spots on ascent to Madison but pretty good going. Snowing pretty good by now and visibility deteriorated tho very little wind. Descent from the hut on Valley Way an absolute blast on a carpet of nice soft snow. Thanks Gary, Guy, Valerie, Karine, Jeff and Emily for an excellent above treeline day
