Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular

Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only water crossings were on the Mt Langdon Trail. The water was so shallow that it was easy to walk through the water in snowshoes without getting wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in pretty good shape. The Mt Parker Trail is poorly blazed. There were some large fallen trees on the Mt Parker Trail. One is an uprooted tree with red flagging. Another requires hikers to swing underneath (until snow depths deepen). Cleared many trees and branches off the Mt Parker Trail.

Comments
Comments: The Mt Langdon Trail crosses through a logged out area before reaching the Presidential Range - Dry River Wilderness Area. This sections looks better in the snow than in the summer. There was a great snowshoe path up to the top of Oak Ridge. Thereafter I had to break trail. The Mt Parker Trail requires diligence in locating the trailway as the blazes are scant and are weathered. On many occasions I had to rely on past experience with the route and observations for corridors of snow with no trees protruding from the snow in order to proceed. Until the next significant snowfall there is a decent snowshoe track which unerringly leads to the summit of Mt Parker.

The only other hiker I met was Tim at the Oak Ridge-Mt Parker col as I was heading back down. He was to break trail to Mt Langdon and perhaps the Crippies.

Very little wind made it a comfortable day on the trail although there were limited views from Mt Parker due to the low cloud ceiling.
