With the warmer temperatures, there's plenty of running water. The wet, spring-like snow also meant that Polly had no issues with iceballing in her paws, a nice change from our past few hikes. |

| Comments: |
The Elwell Trail to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain is well-packed and Microspikes are fine. From the top of the peak we took lesser-used trails down to Goose Pond, and snowshoes were the better choice although Microspikes wouldn't get you into a lot of trouble.
The snow condition was springlike -- wet, soft, granular, with patches of blue ice here and there. The fog prevented any views from the top of Sugarloaf, unfortunately. And pausing beneath any tree was like stopping in a rain shower.
Despite the funky weather and less-than-pleasant snow conditions, this was a very nice morning/noon hike with The Dingman and Sandra. |
