Car spot drive up to Twin a little dicey this morning in light snow but arrived at 7 in Lincoln woods. Trail packed out had to Osseo jct where we put on snowshoes. Trail was broken out and loose packed to Bondcliff..thanks Tim..and we made good time to there. The step up pretty well snowed . Bony from Bondcliff to the Bond climb though we left the snowshoes on. Bonds climb snowed in and now loose packed out. Much snow on the descent to West Bond Jct..a blast on descent. Heading over to West Bond had been broken out but not packed..A real fine day along the ridge with high cloud ceiling and basically zero wind. Tim headed back to Lincoln woods from there, Megan, Valerie, and I headed for 302. While a couple of folks had been through this section it was basically un broken to Guyot which is always a favorite spot in the Whites..No one had been on Twinway from the jct there for quite some time. we slowed our pace and plodded along in 12-18 inch snow..deeper in spots. Just as we started the final climb to Zealand we hear voices and were delighted to see friends Mike Morse, Doug, and Gina and group coming on their N to S trip.. Both groups were all smiles at that point...we chatted a bit.. all delighted in the prospect of some broken out trail coming up and continued on our way. Trek over to Zeacliff went very well on the loose packed trail and the views were excellent. By that point another couple of folks in snowshoes were heading towards Zealand and Guyot so the trail should be in decent shape tomorrow. Sadly and amazingly there were barebooters who had smashed their way to the viewpoint and back but we were able to fix up most of that crap. Lots of folks at the hut..we didnt even stop and headed down Zeaclifff trail which was packed out. Made it halfway down the road before we dragged out a headlamp and we also took off snowshoes there as there was a very packed track from sleds. Terrific day out with Tim, Valerie, and Megan..Great way to close out feb grid!! |
