Comments
Comments: The trail was well packed out thanks to the groups on snowshoes preceding us but became somewhat unconsolidated as we approached tree line. All started on snowshoes but two of the group switched to Microspikes just above tree line, as the trail became a mixed bag of soft snow, hard pack, ice, and exposed rock. We stayed in spikes till back to tree line then changed back to shoes. There were traces of an under cast which gradually burned off. The weather was incredible, one of those rare winter days with warm sun, virtually no wind and great summit views. We were all in base layers above tree line. We saw several ascending Adams on Lowe’s Path and others on Adams’ summit. On our way down we met two others descending from Adams, both in snowshoes, but several groups heading up, intending to stay at one of the cabins, wore a mix of crampons and shoes. Several of us had some unintended butt sliding on the descent. Dorothy C, a previous finisher of the winter Trailwrights List, accompanied Ken A, Glenn S and myself on our quest to complete that winter list. Thanks to all for a great day out.
