Comments
Comments: crusty unbroken snow of about 6 inches to start increasing on the way to the cascades up to about a foot. loaded in deep on the climb up the ravine. above we generally sunk in 12-18 inches into somewhat heavy snow, though more powdery than down low. we hiked across norcross pond as it was quicker and nicer than following the trail. the start of the herd path to nancy is pretty obvious. the snow depth only seemed to increase though we did a good job following the path for a few hundred vertical before running into a wall of spruce and deep snow where the path seemed to disappear. we thrashed around and could find no good way through. at this point tim hit his turn around time due to prior obligations so i continued on my own pushing through the thick mess eventually finding better woods and then the herd path. from there to the summit i was generally able to follow the path and it was just a grind up the steep slope in deep snow to the summit. we wore snowshoes the whole hike.
some difficult snow conditions today on nancy. a huge thank you to timc for helping break trail for most of the day. never would have made the summit in todays conditions without his help. a few limited views on the way down from the slide, but totally socked in at the summit. great to be out.
