| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Nicely plowed lot with a lot of room. Please keep in mind, however, that other nearby trails don't have their lots plowed (Sawyer River) so this lot may fill up fast. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes, Snow - Spring Snow |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Many tiny streams - no problem. One or two larger (but NOT large) were bridged. However, the snow tended to be slushier near these and even with snow shoes I was sinking in a couple spots. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
EXCELLENT! Thank you! A couple very minor blowdowns, they were easily stepped over. Saw evidence that larger ones were recently cut. New signage, and good signs about the rerouting of part of the trail (due to Irene). |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
There are several ledges where a dog could fall to his or her death. Be careful! We did see one dog, she was having a great time! |

Book time is a little over 3 hours, but there is so much to see I think most people will take longer. It's on the 52 with a view list, it could be called the 52 views trail! We snowshoed the whole thing, we saw others barebooting or with Microspikes. For the most part the trail was nicely packed, but postholes were an issue in some spots. And a lot of these were not made by human feet! We only saw the hoofprints, but maybe some one will see a moose. There are a few icy spots here and there, so be careful. And keep in mind, it will be warm the next several days, so conditions may change. I plan on posting a report on HikeNH, after I've had a good night's sleep. |
