Bare booted the road, and wore microspikes from the trailhead to the summit and back to the road. Plenty of snow cover right from trailhead. Trail was pretty firm up to the first re-route. From there, we started running into lots of chewed up, soft rotten snow. Trail was firm enough to avoid postholing but was starting to get soft on the return trip in the afternoon sun. Took the old trail to avoid the loop-de-loop re-route - looks like many others have done this too. Trail through the open part of woods (before the climbing) seems to have gotten the most sun - ran into many bare spots and some softer monorail. Once on the switchbacks, trail stayed firm all day. No ice to speak of. Trail is narrow on the side hill/switchbacks and postholes are helping to create a monorail.
Brought snowshoes along for the ride but colder temps this morning kept the trail firm enough that we didn't need them today.
Thanks to Heather & Kali for a great hike. Beautiful views from summit and signal ridge. Glad we finally decided to hit this one on a nice day.
