Comments
Comments: Trail was dry and pleasant through the hard wood section. Totally different story up higher. Microspikes were invaluable! Right after starting the snowy section on the ascent, I heard the most awful crashing and rumbling. I thought, "Oh no, we're going to die! We're going to get buried!" But that was it. This was a real slog, longest 3 miles of my life, about half way up I was starting to burn out, thinking "This is getting old!" Then, Prema (a few minutes ahead) yelled to me that there was a rainbow. This was at the beginning of the ledges. An unusual sight, a rainbow colored (somewhat muted) perfect circle around the sun. I have never seen anything like it. This hike was a lot tougher than I had anticipated. Postholing to the sides of the monorail, which itself was unstable in some places. The summit was wonderful, sunny and warm, a gentle breeze. I took a nap! Descent was challenging with the softening snow.
