| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The AMC Guide says to park on 113 a the beginning of Thompson Road, where there is a small SLA sign: "Old Highway - Doublehead Trail." I dutifully did that, but after .6 mile of dirt road-walking, I came to a logging clearing where another hiker had just parked. There was a lot of space there and no signs, so I think that is probably OK. |

None of note. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One short wet section of the Crawford Ridgepole Trail, in a col between West Doublehead and the east summit of Squam. Some of the ledges on that Trail are sketchily blazed, with some of them quite faded, and require attention to follow. A few blowdowns, but nothing irksome. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Not far along the Doublehead Trail proper, another hiker and I were stopped by a pair of labs (I think) who harassed us until their owner, a middle-aged lady who was descending the Trail, arrived, at least three minutes later. Of course, she was "sorry," but at least spared us the usual spiel about how friendly they are. |
|
| Bugs: |
The blackflies were conspicuous by their absence for most of the hike, probably due to the steady and refershing breezes. They started to become a nuisance on the descent of the Doublehead Trail and I had to swat a few. |
