Rather than drive out to Hogan rd., I started at Rt 16 in Gorham, crossed the walkway under the former train bridge, followed "AMC Trail" signs and blue blazes to the proper Mahoosuc trailhead near the power station. Mostly easy to follow to that point but missing signage at a couple spots, but if you're paying attention you should be fine. Basically, you come to an orange gate on the former rail bed, a trail dips off into the woods on the right leading shortly to a powerline, where you will take another right and follow the road to Mahoosuc trail.
Mahoosuc trail was pretty moderate going for is length up to where I turned around at Centennial Trail junction past Mt Hayes summit. One eroded section and one prolonged muddy section, other than that it is in good shape. Fantastic views from the south facing ledges straight up Pinkham Notch, Mts Adams, Madison, Washington, Wildcat, Moriah, and Shelburne Moriah among others. Great afternoon out. |
