Comments
Comments: Peabody Trail was surprisingly nice. Make sure to take the side trip to Giant Falls as it is very impressive. There were a few blowdowns along the way but most were step-overs. There are a couple of new trails as well. One for Middle Mountain and one for Bald Cap Peak. Since they aren't on the redline list we didn't bother with them today. Dream Lake is the proper name as quiet rained along the lake with excellent views to Madison and Washington. Lots of wildlife evidence but no sitings.

The Mahoosuc Trail lived up to its reputation. The trail is rough, rocky and wet in many places. Lots of ups and downs, with a total elevation gain today of 4100ft and never surpassing the 3000 ft mark. Wocket Ledge has a fabulous view and Page Pond was nice as well. We stopped at the Trident Col Tentsite to cross the spur off our list. Cascade Mt. has some of the nicest views about two miles from the summit (heading towards Hayes.) Hayes was a viewless summit leading us to speculate why it was on the 52-with-a-view list. Shouldn't every open ledge on any mountain be put on the list. We decided to chop the list down to 51-with-a-view and maybe even start one of our own lists, 53-we-don't-want-to-see. Trails that we will never hike again. The Mahoosuc from Mt. Hayes down to the trailhead makes that list. If you are doing the 52 "list" then I suggest taking the Centennial Trail. The Mahoosuc Trail from Hayes is a disaster with mud, rocks and swampy logging roads that make for a miserable hike off the summit.

All in all it was an excellent day out with the Cheetah, as he is back from Africa basking in the warmer North Country weather.
