Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings on Franconia Brook Trail running high. Instead of trying to rock hop, I just waded through, up to calf deep, ice cold water. Felt good.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Osseo and Franconia Ridge were smooth sailing. Garfield Ridge had several step overs, and a couple of duck unders to deal with. Twin Brook had many step overs, and one whack around cluster, involving about 6 trees that fell directly in the footbed. Franconia Brook muddy in spots, but apparently these are common as there are well worn paths around them. Many step overs on this section as well.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Spooked a dog when I rolled past some folks camping just off Garfield Ridge Trail to the south of Garfield.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad before sunrise, then they feasted for the rest of the day. By the end of it, I was too tired to care.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Looks like I left a Platypus 1 liter water bottle on the porch of Galehead Hut, and didn't realize it until I was well down Twin Brook Trail. Someone has a new water bottle!

Comments
Comments: Probably not the most ideal day to try for a Pemi Loop, but there we have it. Caught a nice sunrise from Flume, and a very enjoyable traverse over the Franconia Ridge. Garfield Ridge did me in, as my lungs stopped cooperating with the particle laden air. I ended up tagging Galehead, and retreated to 13 Falls, and made a long walk of shame out to Lincoln Woods. Ran in to Joe and Becky, who had just hiked Owl's Head, and ended up hiking out with them. Great to meet you guys! I'll be back to slay the whole loop in August, hopefully with better air conditions!
