Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easy rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. Bog bridges are all in great shape. Significant reroute of Nancy Pond Trail diverges from the old trail just uphill from the remains of Lucy Mill to reconnect to the original path shortly before the base of Nancy Cascade. The new trail further uphill from the brook is in response to the damage from tropical storm Irene (similar to Gale River and Signal Ridge relocations). The new path surface may be susceptible to drainage or traction problems after rains. The trail will have to be monitored for any further work required.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: A few near the brook otherwise none.

Comments
Comments: The beginning of the Mt Nancy herd path is at the bend in the Nancy Pond Trail at the clearing within sight of the Norcross Pond outlet. Soon there is a fork in the beaten path. Take the left trail and soon there is a USFS sign on a tree warning not to perform trail maintenance on the herd path. The trail is quite evident with only small tree falls. The path is in better condition than Owl's Head Path or the Kilkenny Trail between Waumbek and Weeks. There is one loose rock about three quarters of the way up the slope. On ascent there is a good view of Mt Carrigain. There is a sign at the summit lookout. Based on the AMC map the summit is not in the wilderness so the sign should remain. Great view of Mt Washington up the Dry River Valley. There is a more obscure lookout immediately to the east of the open viewpoint.
Great view of Mt Bond from the Norcross outlet.
