 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking at the Pasture Path Trailhead. The trail sign itself was mysteriously knocked over between the time we left, and the time we returned. I propped it up in the ditch so it was visible. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Any crossings before Ice Gulch were very easy hops, or just damp streambeds. The small crossings on Ice Gulch Path were running well during and after the thunderstorm, but our feet were wet anyway, so we just walked through in most cases. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Pasture Path slightly grown in, in a few places, especially where it crosses an old logging road at an angle. One duck under on Mt. Crescent Trail, and a couple of step overs on Peboamauk Loop. Some standing water and mud on Ice Gulch Path, not sure if it was that way before the rain. All other trails in great shape. Blazing is faded throughout the loop, but the trails are easily followed. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one golden retriever mix ascending Ice Gulch with its owners, having a great time. I didn't think it was a good trail for dogs, but to each their own. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Only occasionally bothersome until Ice Gulch, then no problem at all until the car. Mosquitoes at the car were hungry, some of them even hitched a ride. |

 | Comments: |
A long planned (a couple of weeks) loop, that took an interesting turn late in the day. The original plan called for ascending through Ice Gulch, then looping over Crescent and Randolph. In retrospect, that might have been a decent choice due to lighting and such. But we didn't want to be on the ridge if thunder rolled through, so we chose to do Ice Gulch late in the day. We managed to get out of the gulch just before the downpour began. A hot, then cold (in the gulch), and then wet hike on some really interesting trails. A repeat for sure. Thanks to Amie and Maria for joining me today! |
