Water Crossing Notes: Not an issue.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Piper Trail is in excellent shape, some minor erosion in a few sections notwithstanding. This trail receives quite a bit of traffic and it's obvious that much work is put into maintaining it (water bars have been cleaned recently and look great). The only items of note are two medium-sized blowdowns: the first is a leaner stuck on another tree, about twenty feet above the trail bed, located about 0.2 miles west of the intersection with the Nickerson Ledge Trail -- a stiff wind mind dislodge this; the second is a duck under/crawl-under, about four feet about the trail bed, located about 0.2 miles east of the intersection with the Champney Falls Trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Nary a one to be seen -- cold and winds kept them at bay.

Comments
Comments: High winds on the summit (40-mph gusts) and very chilly temps caused a number of people to turn back -- so we had the place to ourselves. Great color starting to pop to the west of the summit, near the Kanc. Excellent fall day to be out.
