Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: from the junction of corser brook road and greenough pond road (just over 6 miles from rt. 26 via corser brook road) i drove greenough pond road for about 5.1 miles to its junction with tracy brook road. greenough pond road was in good shape with some potholes to watch out for. i turned right onto tracy brook road which started out decent and then got interesting as it climbed up onto the west side of blue ridge with some significant washouts and rough muddy going. a high clearance 4wd is the best bet, but i managed to pull it off in my passenger car with some serious care as to tire placement. once up the climb it levelled and was in good shape up to 2.5 miles where i turned right onto a spur road which i followed to its drivable end at an old log landing in a few tenths of a mile. this road would have been quite muddy had the ground in that area not remained frozen in the shade. it's worth noting that this seems to be a popular spot for hunters.

Comments
Comments: from the landing i took a bearing on the summit and headed into a previously logged and quite wet area that led up into hobblebush filled slopes and then steepened through open woods up to the ridge. a heavy dusting of snow covered these northern slopes. along the ridgeline was some scrappy spruce and fir, but moose paths helped and led up to the summit. i descended roughly the same route and carefully drove back out. once the sun got around onto tracy brook road some of the upper parts of the road got soggy and muddy pretty quick.

blaze orange highly recommended.

a nice hike. some interesting woods and great views from the log landing and upper parts of tracy brook road. i figured the driving would get interesting at some point during the day and it did. a great day getting in a couple hikes in what was new territory for me. a beautiful area. nice to be out.
