Got to the trail head this morning trying to decide between Liberty / Flume which were not in the clouds and Lincoln / Lafayette were shrouded. Glad we chose to get up high. Lots of ice on Falling Waters. Spikes necessary. I carried crampons but they were not necessary. By the time we reached Little Haystack the fog had left the summits but Cannon, Garfield, the Kinsmans and Owls Head were completely under the clouds. The ridge was windy though there were several places that were very sheltered. We took our time crossing the ridge watching the undercast disappear and turn into a blue bird day. Some small drifting on the ridge but the path was easy to follow. We got to Greenleaf by mid afternoon and got to watch the sunset from the Agonies!! All in All a perfect day and Thanks to Karen. Glad we chose this hike even though my plan had been Adams Madison. But still want to go to Adams/Madison and Owls in December if anyone also needs those hills. |
