Wonderful day to take my brother from Ohio on his first winter hike in the Whites! This trail had obviously been slushy and icy a day or so ago, but was solid snow/ice with good grip and a new dusting of snow on top. Perfect for microspikes, which we wore car-to-car. Beautiful ice-glazed trees at the bottom and blue skies & sun at the top made this a winner for his first cold-weather hike! Only saw 4 other hikers out there, which was a surprise. No gray jays, unfortunately, regardless of how much noise I made rustling snack bags. :-) |
