Comments
Comments: the start of the ridge trail on the access road was cleared down to dirt. then styrofoam/hard, crusty and icy snow up to the summit. more of the same solidified snow with ice heading towards gunstock. some notable bare ground heading up gunstock along with more hard snow and ice. once in tandem with the gunstock mountain trail it was very icy up to the summit. given all of the ice on the trails i opted to head down via the ski trails sticking to various moderate trails to the right (facing downhill) and avoiding active snowmaking areas. coverage was great and perfect for microspikes and i was able to come as close as i ever do to jogging all the way down.

microspikes worked great on the hard snow.

a nice opportunity for a rare christmas day hike. bitterly cold to start and i probably got halfway up rowe before warming up. nice clear skies and good views. great work done by the bratts relocating the ridge trail off of the ski trails and into the woods. with the ski area closed the cruise down the well groomed ski trails was a real treat. great to be out.
